About Me

Robert P. Jones, Ph.D.I am a scholar, writer, and consultant on religion and progressive politics. In addition to advising a number of national advocacy groups in Washington, DC, I’m an affiliated scholar at the Center for American Progress and a columnist for Religion Dispatches. I’m the author of Liberalism’s Troubled Search for Equality: Religion and Cultural Bias in the Oregon Physician-Assisted Suicide Debates (University of Notre Dame Press, 2007) and numerous articles. I completed my Ph.D. in Religion from Emory University and an M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. From 2005-2006, I served as the founding Director and Senior Fellow of the Center for American Values in Public Life at People For the American Way Foundation. I currently serve on the national steering committee for the Religion, Politics, and the State Group of the American Academy of Religion and on the national board of FaithfulDemocrats.com. I’m currently working to complete my new book based on interviews with more than 80 remarkable religious leaders in Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism entitled Progressive AND Religious: The New Face of Religion in American Public Life (Rowman & Littlefield, forthcoming August 2008).
